ZANZIBAR BEACH HOLIDAY

Zanzibar; the romantic, exotic archipelago, reminiscent of Arabian nights and Indian Ocean indolence. Only 15 minutes flight from the mainland, the wonderfully sleepy island of Zanzibar is one of East Africa's finest beach destinations, surrounded by coral reefs with idyllic beaches lined by huge sweeping palm trees. Zanzibar beaches are the obvious addition to a safari on mainland Tanzania, or should we say that a short safari is the obvious addition to your Zanzibar holiday, with the beautiful Selous less than an hour away.

Amazing Zanzibar Beaches to Check Out

Want to know what the best beaches in Zanzibar are? We spent three weeks beach hopping, drinking coconuts, sunbathing, and searching for the perfect Zanzibar beaches. Surrounded by soft white sand, a compelling atmosphere, and crystal clear water, there is no shortage of ideal beaches on this Tanzanian island. Some of the great Zanzibar beaches include Paje, Kendwa, Nungwi, Kizimkaze, Pongwe, and Stone Town, each unique and mesmerizing in their own way. So before you go looking for the best beach in Zanzibar, remember that there really is no bad beach on Zanzibar.

Paje zanzibar beach

Paje is the beach on the east coast of Zanzibar Island. This beach is located on the South East coast of Zanzibar Island (Unguja). Located between Bwejuu beach and Jambiani beach. About 49.8 km from Zanzibar Airport and 49.0 km from Stone Town. Paje beach is considered as the best beach for Kiting in Zanzibar Islands. If you are interested in kiting for your Holiday, we highly recommend you stay at this beach. Not only Kiting sport, but also a great place for Snorkeling, diving and other activities. There are plenty of local stores where you can go and buy fruits, local foods, or hand works like sculptures and paintings.

Stone town zanzibar beach

Stone Town is Zanzibar’s historic heart, a bewildering maze of streets and alleyways that form the westernmost tip of Zanzibar Town. These days the island’s bustling capital is home to some quarter of a million people, but lost in the tangle of Stone Town’s narrow streets it’s easy to imagine yourself floating back in time.

Twisting passages unfurl beneath delicate balconies as you dodge clattering coffee carts and slip by past ornately carved doors. At three and four stories the buildings tower overhead, leaving just a ribbon of sky between billowing laundry and shutters flung wide. Though first settled by the Portuguese in the 16th century, most of Stone Town’s construction dates to the 19th and (to a lesser extent) 18th centuries – a mesmerising mix of Arabic, Persian, Indian and British architecture – and Victorian era accounts of the quarter carry an authentic feeling to this today.

Walk the streets:
The best way to explore Stone Town is on foot, though renting a bicycle is an option if time is short. Hiring a local guide is a great way to discover the hidden histories and lesser known sights and end of Ramadan is especially festive with lanterns lining the alleys and a feast of street food on every corner

Nungwi zanzibar beach

One of the best beaches in northern Zanzibar is Nungwi Beach. Nungwi is absolutely beautiful, but beauty brings annoyance. Teens and touts scour these Zanzibar beaches with hopes of annoying tourists enough to buy their trinkets and tours.

It took us 1.5 hours to get to Nungwi from Stone Town, which in a cab may cost as much as $60. Popular things to do in Nungwi are to visit the aquarium or take a sunset dhow ride.

Aso

This large village at Zanzibar Island's northernmost tip was once best known as a dhow-building center. Today it's a major tourist destination, thanks in part to the beautiful beach and stunning sunsets. The result: a place where traditional and modern knock against each other with full force. Fishing boats still launch from the beach a scene unchanged for centuries – but they're overlooked by a long line of hotels. Some travelers say Nungwi is a definite highlight; others are happy giving it a miss.
